We were out bright and early (well… early) at Chalkwell and Leigh stations this morning…a big THANK YOU to all the commuters who gave so generously. You donated £686.27 for BBC Children in Need. Well done!

We were pleased to donate 5 book packs to the Southend Hospital Charity aimed at helping children understand dialysis and other renal treatments that their Mum, Dad or other relative might be undergoing, so they know what to expect and aren’t so frightened or confused by the experience.Thank you to our friends at The Lions Club of Leigh on Sea, for so kindly responding to a plea from our Renal Unit, who requested 15 new books which are designed to help children understand Dialysis, Kidney Transplants and Haemodialysis, along with some colouring pens so that the children can colour in photocopies of the pages.
Sharon Kyprianou, the Renal Unit Social Worker, explained that it is very difficult sometimes to describe, in an age appropriate way, to a child, why their mother or father may not be able to do the things their friends parents are able to do. Sharon, also, said that the books are really useful to explain the treatments to adults who may have learning difficulties.
