Lions Charity Duck Race

Duck Race 2026

The annual duck race is a fun activity run by Leigh Lions in Old Leigh. This year it took place on Sunday 21st June.

As in previous years, we ran games & a book stall on Strand Wharf while we waited for the race to start.

As the incoming tide began to flow, we released the 1400 numbered ducks into the Thames Estuary, closely shepherded by Leigh Lions and 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts:  the ducks raced down Leigh Creek to the finishing line at Belton Wharf, where they were all quickly gathered up.

The owners of the winning tickets have all been contacted and prize monies paid out.

We offer our sincere thanks to the prize sponsor Priority Management Ltd. and to

Essex Community First Aid Volunteers & Beach School Explorers for helping make the event extra safe and fun

The first four ducks home were:

1st place  No : 0921
2nd place No : 0378
3rd place No : 1119
4th place No : 0947

 Duck Race 2025

On Sunday the 17th August with the sun out the Lions held there Duck Race, it happened a little earlier than we thought due to a stiff breeze blowing the incoming tide up the Thames!  All 1400 ducks were released and they all raced along the creak at Leigh.  This saw an even larger crowd cheering them on with many families walking alongside the ducks as they raced.

The first four were:

1st place  No : 0245
2nd place No : 0146
3rd place No : 0874
4th place No : 1248

We will be in contact with the winners very soon

With the aid of members of the Leigh on Sea Lions Club and 3rd Chalkwell Bay Scouts, all of the ducks were safely collected and, pending a wash and brush up,they will be making a return in 2026.

Our thanks go to our sponsors Sara’s Tea Rooms for the prizes: we hope all enjoyed the day.
