Providing fresh food for food banks has been our most significant service project in recent years.
It began in 2020 when Southend Council’s COVID Action Team asked us to help distribute food to homes as the food banks were unable to open.
We were shocked at how little fresh produce was included and worked with the food banks to determine what could be provided without waste.
Milk, eggs, fresh bread and staple vegetables, combined with store cupboard ingredients, allow people to vary their meals and eat healthily.
As at 31/01/2024 we have donated £36,000 to this project, with thousands of people served.
We are especially proud of our fabulous team of shoppers, many non-Lion volunteers, who have been with us from day one. They’ve made a massive difference to our community. #WeServe
