Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club (CIO)
Terms and Conditions for Duck Race
What is the Duck Race?
- The Duck Race is a charity fundraising event organised by of the Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation Reg No: 1209507 (hereafter referred to as “Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club”).
- Duck Race is essentially a lottery. Each “rubber” duck bears a number and has a matching numbered Duck Race ticket. In the weeks leading up to the race, and on the day, Duck Race tickets will be on sale to the public from locations advertised on Facebook and this website.
- Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club is registered with Southend-on-Sea City Council under the Gambling Act 2005; the registration number will be displayed upon the Duck Race ticket.
- Proceeds received from the Duck Race will be paid into Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club’s charity account.
- The Duck Race is undertaken in Leigh Creek (unless deemed unsafe, see “What if the Race is cancelled?”).
- The ducks are released into the water on the incoming tide, and pass a finishing line. The “winning” duck numbers are recorded and compared to the tickets sold and thus the winners are determined.
- Should any of the “winning” numbered ducks not have a matching sold ticket, it will forfeit its place and the next Duck past the line will “win” the next available prize i.e. more numbers are noted down than there are prizes to be won to ensure a winner is found for each prize.
What if the Race is cancelled?
- In the unlikely event that the Duck Race cannot occur for any reason, then the “winning ducks” will be determined as follows:
-
- All sold ticket stubs being placed in a suitable container and tickets (ducks) selected at random by a member of the Lions Club witnessed by another member, equal in number to the prizes available, as detailed on the sold tickets.
- The results of the draw are final.
How will I know if I’ve won?
- Winners will be notified by phone call or email and prizes will be sent within 28 days. Winners will be contacted within one week where possible. The ticket stub should be retained as proof of purchase.
- More than one set of tickets may be sold and all prizes are given in full and are not “shared” i.e. if there are three “1st place” tickets, each winner will receive the prize as shown on the ticket
- Should a winning ticket be found to be incorrectly completed, the telephone number incomplete or the address incorrect then the winner will forfeit the prize won
- Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club accepts no responsibility for Duck Race tickets that are lost, damaged, illegible, or from which the prize-winner cannot be identified.
- The result of the Duck Race is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

- To request a winner’s list by post, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the promotor as detailed on the Duck Race ticket.
- In the event of an error, however caused, whether a printing error or otherwise and whether obvious or otherwise, which affects the Duck Race in any way, the organisers reserve the right to fairly administer the Duck Race as though the error had not occurred. Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club’s decisions made pursuant to the rules shall, once made, be final and binding.
- The rules are subject to change by Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club and the latest version will appear on the website leighlions.co.uk.
